Mumbai: On Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shaina NC assured the residents of Mahim that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will provide a security guard for the Mahim subway, which they have been wanting to convert into a study hall.

“As drug addicts crowded the area, we made a request to the BMC to not hand over the incomplete subway to anyone, lest it be misused. Some political parties and organisations had also been eyeing the plot for their personal use.

“As a result of this the BMC handed it over to our citizen’s group. We had proposed to BMC to convert it into a study hall for the benefit of poor children living in the area and hence asked for a security guard to be assigned there.

“However, as the BMC has not been providing a guard, the subway has been kept locked since eight years,” said Dhala.

Ms NC said that the residents’ proposal was socially beneficial. “After surveying the place, I called the additional municipal commissioner Pallavi Darade to check on the file status of the subway. Darade assured me that the file has reached Mehta's table and hopefully in a week the sanction to appoint security guards for Mahim Subway will be done.”
