Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch (CB) has arrested four persons who robbed a person while carrying ornaments worth Rs 1.33 crore after attacking him near the Lower Parel-based gold workshop where he worked in October.

The accused persons, including a man who knew details of the unit operations, kept watch on the victim and chose a blind spot near the Sun Mill compound to attack him so that it would not be captured on CCTV camera. The accused were apprehended and the police recovered 80 per cent of the booty.

The arrested accused, identified as Vilas Pawar (25), Suresh Doke (36), Mahendra Chowdhary (22) and Satish Sanap (26), executed the crime on the night of October 20 after keeping watch on the victim for a few days. The accused attacked the victim from behind and after hitting him with a rod, threw chilli powder on his face. Unit 3 of the CB began investigation after a case was registered with the N.M. Joshi Marg police station. The officers then found that the location of the crime had been selected such that the act would not get recorded by any CCTV camera.

“The victim works at a firm which collects readymade ornaments from manufacturing units. Doke knew about his routine as he is part of the same fraternity. He thus hatched a plan for the robbery and involved the others,” said a CB officer.
