No quota in promotions till SC verdict

Mumbai: The state has decided not to go ahead with reservation in promotions till the apex court decides on the pending petition. Now, the government has taken steps to fill vacant posts through promotion only from the open category, which may trigger the anger of reserved class employees.

A Constitution bench of the Supreme Court had directed the state government to decide about giving reservation to SCs/STs in promotions while deciding the SLP of M. Nagraj on September 26, 2018. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) ordered to send back 154 newly appointed PSIs of the SC/ST category to the original posts. It triggered an-ger among the reserve-d class employees and now, MAT has given relief to these employees and asked the state to take the decision, said an officer.
