Man given life in prison for molesting girl

Mumbai: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court on Friday sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting and assaulting a minor girl.

Special judge S.D. Tulankar presiding over the POCSO Act court sentenced Haroon Shaikh to five years of rigorous imprisonment but acquitted co-accused Deepak Gupta for want of evidence.
The incident took place on May 19, 2015 under the jurisdiction of Antop Hill police station.
Special public prosecutor Vinod More had contended that the on the day of the incident the victim felt someone’s presence on the terrace of her building and stepped out to find both the accused.
Shaikh held the victim’s hand and pulled her due to which she fell down.
Thereafter, Shaikh dragged her and when she tried to shout, he broke a glass bottle on her head and threatened to kill her. Meanwhile, in an attempt to rescue herself she bit Shaikh’s hand. A woman living in the same building heard the commotion and soon arrived at the spot of the incident. Upon seeing the woman, both the accused fled. Later, upon victim’s complaint the police arrested Shaikh and Gupta.
