It will be compulsory to take admission if any student has got his or her first preference of college allotted in the first round.

Mumbai: The first general merit list for first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) was released at 5.30 pm on Friday.

The cut-off for admissions in all major colleges such as Ruia, St Xavier’s, Jai Hind among others was above 90 per cent for all the three streams.

It will be compulsory to take admission if any student has got his or her first preference of college allotted in the first round. If this is not done, the student will be out of the admission process for the next rounds.

Such students will get a chance to apply only during the special round after all the regular rounds. Students not allotted their first preference can opt for the later rounds.

Merit list for seats reserved for management quota, intra-institutional in-house quota and minority quota was displayed by colleges as part of the zero round, declared on June 25. Now, three regular rounds will be arranged for admission to all streams.

“Students were asked to list preferences for their colleges. Based on it and the cut-offs, the colleges have been allotted to students. Those who have been allotted their first preference college will be required to take admission there and cannot participate in the regular rounds after this,” said an official from the office of deputy director of education.   

Around 1,85,318 candidates applied for seats this year out of which 1,34,467 have been allotted seats.

While prominent colleges in MMR regions had cut off percent of above 90 percent for Science stream and Commerce streams, colleges famous for Arts had a cut off till 86 percent.

Total FYJC seats across 849 junior colleges in the MMR region stood at 3,19,186 with highest in Commerce (1,74,046), followed by Science (1,02,409), Arts (37,071) and HSVC (5,660).
