Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is hiring an expert company to transplant trees on the Metro 2B and 4 routes. If the move proves successful,  the MMRDA will implement this for other Metro lines. The trees removed on these routes will be planted on suitable land. MMRDA has sought permission from the forest department to carry out the measure. The MMRDA floated a tender few days back to hire a tree transportation machine and expert agency for the transplantation of trees on the Metro 2B and Metro 4 routes.

The MMRDA has submitted its tree cutting/transplantation proposal to the Tree Authority committee, which will decide which trees will be cut or transplanted. According to the tender proposal, 4,090 trees are required to be transplanted. According MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kavathkar, this technique will be further used for the MMRDA’s other projects.
