Man who dragged barricade to evade paying toll arrested

Mumbai: Almost three weeks after a car was seen dragging the barricade at Vashi toll naka in a bid to evade toll, the Mumbai police has caught Mumbra resident, Abid Sayyed, and handed him over to Navi Mumbai police on May 9.

Sayyed has been booked for negligent driving under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code. Mumbai police spokesperson Deepak Deoraj said, “After tracking down the accused, the arrest was made, and accordingly, a case was registered by the Navi Mumbai police. He was later handed over to them.”

According to sources, a miscreant tried to evade toll and pushed a traffic barricade from the Vashi toll naka on April 21, and the police learned about it after the video went viral on social media. As soon as it was brought to the police’s attention, the police started tracking the car using the video as evidence.

It was evident that the car, a Maruti Suzuki Swift, had run over the barricade, and accordingly, a case of negligent driving was registered against Sayyed.

A senior police official said that they initiated a search operation to find the accused, and the police managed to nab the accused within ten days of registering an offence. Sayyed has a garments shop in Mumbra.

In the afternoon of April 21, Sayyed pushed the  barricade at the Vashi toll naka to evade toll, and sped away. Luckily, a car driving in the adjacent lane captured a video of the incident which led to Sayyed’s arrest.
