Mumbai: Following heavy traffic jams at Ghodbunder Road after the commencement of Metro-4 project; the Thane police have issued guidelines making it mandatory for seeking a NOC for each stretch where the work would be undertaken. The police held a meeting with MMRDA, MSEB, PWD, Metro and other agencies asking them to coordinate among themselves and do all the digging and repair work together.

The agencies have been also asked not to barricade the whole stretch and only that part of the road, which has received a NOC for undertaking the work.

The meeting was held on Friday with the primary goal to keep traffic jams at bay from the Ghodbunder road.

“Agencies would have to take separate NOC’s from authorities for each stretch as this would also help for all to have knowledge on what activity is taking place where,” said an officer of Thane police.

The officials said that this was perhaps the first time that such decisions were taken citing the mismanagement and traffic snarls after work began on other metro routes.

“It is usually seen that after road repairs are do-ne those vested with responsibility of underground utilities wake up and dig the road again. To avoid this from taking place, we have specially included the state electricity board and Mahanagar gas so that they complete their work before the roads are made,” added another Thane police officer.
