Mumbai: The Amboli police officials, who are probing the stalking charges against an IT professional, Nitesh Kumar Sharma, feel that the accused is mentally unstable, after interrogating him, according to sources. Sharma seemed to be giving different answers to the same question and kept retracting whatever he said earlier. He is yet to explain as to why he was chasing the designer.

The accused had allegedly followed a Lokhandwala based fashion designer’s car early on Monday morning, scaring her off by ringing her doorbell. A month ago, he was sacked from him Hyderabad based job.

The police official, who are investigating the case, are now trying to get in touch with Sharma’s ex-employer to ascertain the reason for his dismissal from the IT organisation. They have checked the building’s CCTV footage, which clearly shows Sharma approaching the lift in the lobby. The accused was produced in the court on Thursday, where he was remanded to judicial custody for a week.

An investigating officer said, “Sharma had come to Mumbai for a week long break and was staying at his cousin’s flat. His parents, who were initially travelling to Hyderabad to see their son, had to instead come down to Mumbai after they learned about his arrest.”

Mumbai police spokesperson DCP (Operations) Rashmi Karandikar said, “The accused has been remanded to judicial custody and the police are simultaneously questioning the residents of the building.”
