WR serve food to stranded travellers

Railway authority has made a special arrangement with food special local train for stranded passengers.

Mumbai: Due to heavy rainwater and water-logging on the Vasai-Virar stretch, the commercial department of Western Railways (WR) on Tuesday instru-cted that food stalls at platforms to have the enough foods. The WR is purchasing food and ser-ving stranded passengers.

 “The stalls should be stuffed with enough stock of food and beverages and if needed they should remain open throughout night,” said Rishkesh Kumaran, Marketing professional who travels to Churchgate.

Railway authority has made a special arrangement with food special local train for stranded passengers. “The train commenced from Mum-bai Central station at 5 pm and reached Vasai Road station at 6.30 pm. Around 900 meals for stranded passengers of Shatabdi, 924 meals for Duronto and 200 puri bhaji for other trains passengers were loaded in this train,” a WR official said.  

More than 16,300 food packets were distributed in 23 held up trains. Local NGOs including lions club also came in support of this initiative.
