Committee will study prohibition in 3 districts

Nagpur: State excise minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday assured the Legislative Assembly of setting up a committee to examine the implementation of prohibition in Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Wardha in Vidarbha as he faced a volley of questions from the Opposition. The committee will submit its findings within a month.

During a calling attention motion moved by deputy leader of Congress Vijay Wadettiwar over prohibition in the three districts, Opposition benches mounted an attack on the excise minister over seizure of huge quantity of liquor, which is banned in the three districts. Besides Mr Wadettiwar, Vire-ndra Jagtap joined in the debate and claimed liquor was being smuggled from MP, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Mr Wadettiwar said  smuggled liquor worth Rs 90 crore was seized by the authorities. “If this much is seized, how much worth liquor goes undetected?” he said.
