Malad stalker gets one-day police custody

Mumbai: A Malad-based IT professional, Nitesh Kumar Sharma, who was arrested by the Amboli police on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stalking a Lokhandwala-based fashion designer, was remanded to police custody till Thursday.

The complainant had approached the police on Monday, and Sharma was arrested a day later and booked under section 354d that pertains to stalking. Officials investigating the case said the police sought custody of Sharma till Thursday, as they are not done with questioning him. The police have recovered the CCTV footage of the area, where he is seen sitting in the car at the time of the incident.

DCP Zone 9, Paramjit Singh Dahiya told this paper, “The accused was presented in court today and the police have sought his custody till Thursday as they want to ascertain some facts put forth by both parties.”

The incident took place early on Monday morning when the victim was travelling with her kids and a friend from a party in her BMW car from Andheri to her residence in Shastri Nagar in Lokhandwala. After stalking the victim’s car, the accused, who was following in a Honda Civic, went up to her residence and rang her doorbell, which scared the victim.

The woman alerted her neighbours and security guards over the intercom, and they came and escorted Kumar off the building premise.
