Yoga teacher held for molesting woman in Sewri

According to sources, the accused used to conduct yoga classes every Sunday at a school in Sewri.

Mumbai: A 57-year-old yoga teacher has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman during his classes in Sewri. The accused, Shivram Raut, who has been conducting yoga classes for the last few years, was arrested from his residence in Wadala last night, a senior officer said. Raut was presented in court and was granted a bail by paying Rs 15,000.

According to sources, the accused used to conduct yoga classes every Sunday at a school in Sewri.

During these yoga class sessions, the accused allegedly asked the woman to keep sexual relations with him to attain 'moksha' (liberation) and indulged in indecent behaviour with her too. The incident was spanned from November 2016 to April 2017. The woman who kept mum on the incident at first, opened up to her husband who then registered a complaint with R A K Marg police station in Sewri on July 5.

Based on the complaint, the police conducted a probe and arrested the accused from his house. The accused has been booked under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) .

Bhagwat Bansod, senior police inspector of RAK Marg police station said, “He was arrested from his house on Saturday night and was given bail on Sunday. We will be further investigating the matter.”
