Chavan has been arrested on charges of being one of the conspirators in the murder.

Tanasha was shot dead on June 2, 2010 at his residence.

Mumbai: A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court has rejected the application seeking temporary bail for three weeks filed by a builder, Rajendra Rohidas Chavan (46) who was arrested in connection with the 2010 murder of Farid Tanasha, an alleged confidant and sharpshooter of gangster Chhota Rajan.

Chavan has been arrested on charges of being one of the conspirators in the murder. The prosecution has claimed that being a developer, Chavan knew the many builders who were into projects of the Slum Rehab-ilitation Authority and other private projects. He would allegedly collect information about the upcoming construction projects from the builders and the details to Rajan, so that money could be extorted from them. Chavan was paid a commission for this, the prosecution said. Tanasha was shot dead on June 2, 2010 at his residence.

Chavan sought temporary bail on the ground that his 82-year-old mother is suffering from various ailments and therefore her physical and mental condition is extremely week.

The special public prosecutor opposed the bail plea saying Chav-an’s earlier bail application has already been dismissed and there is no change in circumstance for which bail could be granted.

After hearing the arguments, special jud-ge Shridhar Bhosle on Thursday held that successive bail applications are tenable if the accused shows change of circumstances. It is well settled that an issue, which had been canvassed in earlier bail application would not be permitted to be re-agitated. Chavan’s bail plea was rejected.
