Mumbai: The bullet train is one of the biggest projects under the Modi government. Not only will it be the fastest at 320kmph, the train also has foldable beds and multiple rooms among other features.

According to sources, the fare will be 1.5 times more than that of AC first class. The country’s first bullet train will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Features of the first high-speed bullet train include sick persons’ room, feeding rooms for lactating mothers, multipurpose rooms, and other such catering to the comfort and safety of passengers.

A video tweeted by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) highlights the train’s features.

The multi-purpose rooms housed by the train will have facilities such as folding beds, baggage racks and mirrors.

A central government official working on the project said, “It may be noted that the world-famous Shinkansen technology is being used for India’s first Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor project.”

Asked when the project would be completed, he said, “The official target for completion of this corridor is August 2022.”

The introduction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor will reap multiple benefits across various sectors/industries, helping transform infrastructure, reduce traffic and generate employment.

Recently, 33 employees of NHSRCL from project offices in Mumbai, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat and Delhi (corporate office) received certificates from the Japan Foundation for successfully completing the Japanese language and culture learning training programme.

The work for India’s first bullet train project is on track and the NHSRCL recently floated a tender for the first undersea tunnel, which will be part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.

The bullet train corridor will have a 21 km underground corridor from BKC to Kalyan Shilphata, Maharashtra, and bids have been invited for this undersea tunnel. A seven kilometre stretch of this tunnel will be constructed under the sea bed.
