Mumbai: Man booked for raping minor girl, stepmother for abetting crime

Thane: Police on Monday booked a man for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl at a village in Dombivili township of the district.

They have also registered offenses against the girl's stepmother for abetting the crime, an officer at Manpada police station said.

The victim lived with her father and stepmother at Golawali village in Dombivili East.

When her father used to go out for work, the stepmother would ask the man to come into the house and then she would leave the house locking the door from outside.

The man lured the girl with chocolates, gave her money and allegedly raped her on several occasions in last three years, the police officer said.

The two accused threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed about the offense to anybody, he said.

Fed up with the torture, the girl on Monday lodged a complaint with Manpada police under Kalyan division.

The police registered offenses against the man and the girl's stepmother under IPC sections 376 (2) (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) also relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) Act, he said.

No arrest has been made so far in this connection, the officer said adding that they are trying to find out details of the accused man and if he was related to the girl's stepmother.
