Mumbai: The Nirmal Nagar police station on Saturday registered a case of rape against an unknown man under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. The case was registered following a complaint by a 20-year-old married girl who alleged that a man had raped her in her house in Behrampada, Khar, with his face covered.

The police said, “We have sent her for a medical test and are awaiting the results, following which we can probe the case.”

According to police sources, the victim had arrived weeping in the police station on Saturday morning. While complaining, she added that since he had covered his face with a cloth, she could not recognise him. She also claimed that the person entered her mezzanine floor room by forcing himself through the door and raped her by overpowering the victim. The victim alleged that the accused tied her mouth with a dupatta, because of which she could not alert her family members who were in the lower room.

Ramchandra Jamdade, senior police inspector of Nirmal Nagar police station, said “We are questioning the neighbours to know more about the movement of the accused in the given time frame.”

The girl confided in her family late on Friday night and approached the police on Saturday.
