Kamal Haasan exhorts youth to stop selling votes for cash

Mumbai: Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan was in the city on Friday to attend the ‘Take Pride 2018’ summit held at the Bombay Stock Exchange. At the event, the actor exhorted the young entrepreneurs present to take the lead in curbing electoral malpractices and spurning enticements in lieu of votes.

“You will have to help me to stop this. It will all start with cleansing yourself and spreading awareness to others to stop selling their votes for money,” the actor said, when asked about the ‘sale of votes”. The actor, who launched his party ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’ last month said, “I am not insisting you to vote for me. I am insisting you vote to begin with.”

Haasan discussed various topics ranging from caste politics to generation of employment at the event. He was questioned on his views on castesim and the contribution of youth to politics. He also shared his views on job creation, stressing on the fact that entrepreneurs lead to job creation.

Take Pride 2018 is an event, which offers a platform to many sung and unsung heroes /champions to share their inspiring stories with young entrepreneurs. Along with Haasan, several other panelists and speakers were lined up on the first day of this Young Leadership summit.
