Mumbai: The Bombay high court while rapping the BMC for refusing to pick up waste generated by a hotel at Dadar directed the corporation to do so immediately.

After the BMC refused to pick up the waste generated by the hotel as it was allegedly above 100 kgs, the hotel approached the court claiming that the BMC’s assumption was wrong as they generate only 60-70 kg of waste daily and neither had resources nor a system to dispose it off themselves. According to a recent decision of the BMC, establishments and societies producing waste above 100 kg have to compulsorily segregate  and process it themselves as per Solid Waste Management Rules.

After hearing the submissions, the bench said that in the interest of the residents and going by the claims of the petitioners, it was incumbent on the BMC to pick up the waste immediately.
