Mumbai: The CBI Friday filed a written reply to the bail plea filed by former media baron, Peter Mukerjea. The CBI had opposed his bail plea, saying that there was sufficient evidence to show that Peter was against the relationship between Sheena Bora and his son Rahul and that he was involved in the conspiracy to murder Sheena.

The reply filed by public prosecutor Bharat Badami before special CBI Judge J.C. Jagdale strongly opposed the bail application saying that the crime was of a serious nature and the accused did not deserve any leniency.

The reply had been filed to the fourth bail application filed by Mukerjea. This time, he had filed a bail application on merits and the Constitutional right to liberty given the unknown length of the ongoing trial. He had said that the trial began 21 months ago and so far, 22 witnesses had been examined while the prosecution had submitted a list of 200 witnesses.

According to the CBI, releasing Peter would be prejudicious to the prosecution because being an influential person, the accused might tamper with the evidence and influence material witnesses whose deposition was yet to be recorded. Apart from this, he was a UK national and there was every possibility that he would run away and abscond which would cause a serious impediment to the ongoing trial.

According to the CBI, the crime abduction and murder of Sheena Bora was heinous because it was committed with a cool mind and in a premeditated and planned manner and hence the accused did not deserve any leniency.
