Downpour affects local train services

Suburban services of the Central Railways (CR) were hit and more than 25 trains were cancelled.

Mumbai: Due to heavy rains, local train services were stopped between Kalyan and Badlapur for more than one hour on Saturday. Express trains were also delayed while Pune Mumbai Deccan Express trains (11008) was cancelled.

Suburban services of the Central Railways (CR) were hit and more than 25 trains were cancelled. The trains were running late by 30 to 45 minutes on the CR, while the suburban services of Western Railways (WR) were normal. The intensity of the rains were so heavy that the waterlogging was seen at south east section of CR.

A senior officer of CR said that water of Barvi dam coupled with overflowing water from the Ulhas river led to water-logging on the tracks. “We have never seen such water-logging, we have now decided to put an additional pumps,” he added.  

Mukesh Mishra, a business development manager in firm at Andheri, said, “I was waiting for a Ghatkopar train at Kalyan station for more than an hour but there was no announcement, hence I decided to go back.
