14 parties sent EC notice over poll spending

As per the SEC directive on October 15, 2016, it is obligatory for all political parties to present their election expenditure.

Mumbai: The State Election Commission (SEC) has issued notices to 14 major political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena, in the state for failing to provide the details of their expenditure during the local civic bodies polls. They should submit their details before March 10, said state election commissioner J.S. Sahariya.

“As per the SEC directive on October 15, 2016, it is obligatory for all political parties to present their election expenditure. They were intimated about this time and again through various means. Hence, these parties have been issued notice asking why their registration should not be cancelled,” said Mr Sahariya.

Apart from BJP and Sena, the parties that have been issued notices include the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, the Bahujan Samaj Party, Janata Dal (Secular), the Samajwadi Party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Lok Janashakti Party and Janata Dal (United).
