Mumbai: A day before the Delhi Assembly polls, the Shiv Sena Friday heaped praises on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for his government’s “ideal” work in the last five years and said that the Centre should have replicated the “Delhi model” of development in other states.

The party said in its mouthpiece Saamana that the Delhi CM had overshadowed the BJP brigade including all the chief ministers of BJP ruled states and the MPs through the work carried out by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

The Sena also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah had put in all their efforts into the Delhi Assembly elections following the defeat in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. They may be thinking of coming to power in the capital of India and there is nothing wrong in that, the party said.

The editorial said that despite the differences in policies and working style of the BJP and Mr Kejriwal, and despite the AAP government having limited power not to mention continuous tussles with the Centre, its works in sectors such as health, education and civic amenities were perceived as an ideal.

“Mr Kejriwal is seeking votes on the basis of the work done in five years. This is a new experiment in the country's politics. This should be welcomed beyond party lines. The voters of Delhi are intelligent,” it said.

The editorial further noted that the BJP government should have used the Kejriwal model in other states. Instead of doing that, the entire system was being used to prove Mr Kejriwal a liar.

“If a state is doing well, appreciating it is the duty of the leader, but that kind of large-heartedness is there no more," it said.
