Mumbai: A Right to Information (RTI) reply has revealed that no action has been taken against the 21 disqualified Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) corporators, including the current mayor of Mumbai Vishwanath Mahadeshwar who was then municipal corporator. They were disqualified after civic elections of 2007, 2012 and 2017.

“Out of the 21 disqualified corporators, 20 were disqualified for producing fake caste certificates and one for flouting the norm of having more than two children. The list includes the mayor,” RTI activist Anil Galgali said.

Replying to Mr Galgali’s RTI query, the BMC’s legal department officer S.D. Fulsunge mentioned that no case has been registered against any disqualified corporators.

Ms Fulsunge further stated that the legal department forwards the election petitions to the small causes court. However, when Mr Galgali contacted the deputy law officer from small causes court Anant Kajrolkar, he replied that no FIR had been filed against any of the disqualified corporators in the last three elections.

Mr Galgali has slammed the civic body over its lethargic approach and called it as ‘unprofessional’.
