Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) will be hosting e-Yantra Symposium wherein 16 robots — including those that could help clean sewage lines, dispense medicine in hospital wards, drone robots to detect crop disease among others — will be on display. The robots on display have been made by engineering students from across the country and have been short listed from a total of 330 proposals.

According to Dr Kavi Arya, principal investigator, the goal of the symposium was to share projects and brainstorm new ideas for improving pedagogy and the quality of BE projects. “This event ensures a sustainable use of Robotic labs set up through the e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) and is sponsored by MHRD through its National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). No registration fee is charged from teachers and students from the eLSI family of colleges who attend the symposium,” said Dr Arya.

Robots, such as a defender gadget with Integration of IOT from the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore acts as a safety device for women. Another robot is from REVA University in Bangalore, which is sewage blockage removing robot.

The symposium, to be held on April 7 and 8, will see Soumya Sarkar, deputy director, SEDA, ISRO Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad who will deliver a keynote speech on India’s Mangalayan Mission and Case Study on ISRO Innovation.
