Mumbai: A 25-year-old youth tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide outside the Vidhan Bhavan (legislature complex) in south Mumbai this morning to seek "justice" in a case registered against him, police said.

Anil Gangaram Sahane alias Sandeep, who hails from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide outside the Valmiki Gate of Vidhan Bhavan around 11:30 am, a police official said.

The policemen, who were posted at the gate at that time, took him to St George Hospital with the help of some people, who hailed from Ahmednagar district.

"He is out of danger and being treated at St George hospital," the official said.

"During the enquiry, he told the police he came to Mumbai to seek justice in a criminal case registered against him in Sangamner. He alleged that injustice has been done to him," the official added.

Marine Drive Police have registered a case of attempt to suicide against Sahane, police said.

The Budget session of the Maharashtra Legislature commenced in Mumbai on Monday.
