Marathwada, vidarbha receive ‘normal’ rains
As of August 4, the surplus rainfall in Central Maharashtra stood at 48 percent, reported private weather forecaster Skymet.
Mumbai: The recent spell of rainfall brought good news to Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. With improved rainfall, both regions now come under the ‘normal rainfall’ category, weathermen said on Monday. Moreover, the rain surplus in Konkan region stood at 40 per cent following heavy rains in the first week of August.
Due to the recent downpour, rain deficiency come down to three per cent in Vidarbha. On the other hand, good spells of rain have helped Marathwada come under the ‘normal rainfall category’, with the rain deficiency at only 18 per cent.

Many areas in Maharashtra recorded rainfall above 100 mm since Sunday. Mahabaleshwar recorded 380 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period, followed by Ratnagiri 271 mm, Nashik 158 mm, Kolhapur 102 mm, Thane 77 mm, Vengurla 74 mm, Harnai 71 mm, Santa Cruz 62 mm.
According to India Meteorological Department, Bandra recorded 412 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours (as of 8:30 am on Monday). Mazgaon received 142 mm rainfall in the same period, followed by Ghansoli Gaon (114.6 mm) and Chirak Nagar (100 mm).
The intensity of rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas is likely to reduce in the next 48 hours. “Rainfall would subside in North Konkan, Goa, and North Madhya Maharashtra. Rains will occur only with light intensity, with a few moderate spells in Mumbai, Dahanu, Ahmednagar and Malegaon for another three days,” read the Skymet Weather report.
