BMC clears removal of 116 trees in Dadar

Mumbai: The proposed Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at Indu Mill, Dadar, will require removal of 116 trees. Of these, 79 trees will be axed while 37 will be transplanted. The proposal to remove the trees was passed unanimously in the BMC’s tree authority on Thursday.

The proposed site for the memorial has total 250 trees. The MMRDA had asked for permission to remove 116 of them, which were coming in the way of construction of the memorial.

According to civic officials, the hearing for this proposal was held by the garden superintendent last month. According to tree authority rules, new trees will be planted in place of axed trees either on open space of the same land or in the municipal recreational ground within a month. Meanwhiel, the transplanted trees will also be relocated on the same plot.
