Mumbai: Labour unions in the state have written to the labour ministry threatening to approach the Bombay high court for the ministry’s failure to set up the advisory committee for wage revision in the state after 32 industries had failed to revise wages since 2010.

The unions have said that the failure of the government to act upon its constitutional responsibility as stipulated in the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, to revise minimum wages every five years, has prompted them to take such a step.  

In a letter written recently to labour minister Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil, the Centre of Indian Trade Union reminded the government that it was a statutory requirement of every government to form the advisory committee, for the revision of wages.
