Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in Sheena Bora murder case, on Monday broke down in the special CBI court while requesting bail on account of her poor health condition and said she would die if her request is not granted.

Seeking bail for the fourth time on health grounds, the former media executive argued before the court that she had been asked to undergo regular check-up every three months.

She further claimed that after September 2018, she visited a hospital only twice or thrice due to suspected brain stroke.

She sought her release on bail on the grounds that she won’t be able to bear the expenses of medical treatment at a private hospital, while remaining in jail because it costs around `38,000 per day.

Indrani argued that she would be able to get medical treatment in a private-run hospital only when she is released on bail.

Indrani also questioned CBI’s stand, which has  been opposing her bail application on merits. She asked the court why the CBI was raising issues related to merits of the case when she was seeking bail on health grounds.

She also claimed that the story narrated by the approver (her former driver Shyamvar Rai) was nothing but strange. She further informed the court that her health condition is deteriorating ever since she began suffering from neurological complications.

Indrani turned emotional and told the court that there was nobody to look after her in India. She said that her daughter was studying abroad and was recently mugged in Spain. She also lost her passport and was undergoing psychiatric treatment after the incident, Indrani claimed.

About CBI’s apprehension that Indrani, if released on bail, may influence prosecution’s vital witness Rahul Mukerjea, son of her former husband Peter Muk-erjea, Indrani assured the court that she was ready to give undertaking to the court in this regard.

In April 2018, Mukerjea, who was admitted in the state-run JJ Hospital for the treatment of suspected drug overdose and was brought back to the jail after the treatment.

The reports of her urine sample showed a significant increase in the level of benzodiazepine, a class of anti-depressants, a doctor from the JJ Hospital said, quoting reports of the Forensic Science Laboratory at Kalina.
