Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai police has launched a manhunt for the persons who wrote messages in support of terror outfit Islamic State (IS) on the pillar of a flyover in Uran.

The police has sounded an alert and is scanning CCTV footage of the locality to identify the accused. The officials, however, said that the act seemed to be of some miscreants, as the police found liquor bottles at the spot.

The incident came to light after locals spotted messages and pictures of a rocket painted on the pillar of the flyover at Khopate praising the IS terror ring and its fighters. The message also mentioned its chief Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi and stated the names of some of the installations that could be attacked.

“We are probing the purpose of writing these messages and trying to find who did it. Since liquor bottles were also found from the spot, it also hints towards act of some miscreants, but they will be found to verify their antecedents,” said a senior Navi Mumbai crime branch officer.

The police has beefed up security of sensitive installations in and around Uran, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) port and ONGC installations.

The officials said that the teams of Uran police station and the crime branch are investigating the incident.

A team of state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and National Investigation Agency also visited the spot to gather details and will also conduct a probe from their end. The police said that it had collected samples and other evidence from the spot.

The police has not filed any case in the incident, but all units have been put on alert and officers said that the accused would be identified and booked. The Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera grid is being scanned for relevant footage, which will help the police get leads.
