Women’s panel launches mobile app

Mumbai: The state women’s commission has introduced a mobile app ‘Tejaswini’ enabling victims of crimes against women to register complaints. It will soon launch a dedicated website for the purpose, according to the commission’s chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar. The commission receives at least a 100 complaints every month.  

Ms Rahatkar said, “The commission introduced a mobile app a few months ago. It is receiving approximately 25 complaints via the app and e-mail, 25 in person and 50 via mail every month. Many women seek advice in various matters. So, the commission is preparing to set up a helpline to register a complaint and women will get feedback and they can check their status on it.” Meanwhile, the commission has been receiving many complaints in person. In one such case, the commission helped the wife of a deceased Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) employee Mitali Mahendra Kamble get Rs 14 lakh from her brother-in-law. Kamble had received the amount from the undertaking after her husband’s death. She kept that money in the joint bank account with brother-in-law, who withdrew the money without her knowledge. When she learned of his actions, Kamble went to bank and BEST, but nothing could be done. She then approached the commission.
