Nagpur: In a surprising development, Mithun Chakraborty, a former naxalite who gave up guns and later turned into a popular Bollywood actor, on Thursday met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and other senior functionaries of the saffron organisation at their head quarters in Mahal in Nagpur.

Mr Chakraborty spent an hour at the RSS headquarters and later visited the Reshimbagh complex of the RSS and paid tributes at the memorial of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

He was accompanied by Prasad Mahankar, Vidarbha pracharak of the organisation, the sources said.

Mr Chakraboty had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul Congress, after it came to power in West Bengal in the 2011 Assembly elections. The election had famously dethroned the 34-year-old Left rule.

Mr Chakraborty was later nominated as Rajya Sabha member in 2014 but resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha within two years, citing health issue.
