Corporators slammed the civic administration on Monday for the dismal living conditions at Mahul.

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) make a provision of Rs 300 crore in the civic budget to provide better civic amenities like roads, sewerage, hospitals and storm water drains at Mahul, where the civic body has offered alternate accommodation to project affected persons (PAPs) in the city.

Corporators slammed the civic administration on Monday for the dismal living  conditions at Mahul saying people are facing lot of inconvenience and hardship there. The PAPs are facing lot of problems like pollution, contaminated water, substandard elevators, lack of hospitals, schools and buses and garbage at Mahul, they said.

The civic body has undertaken several projects like Brimstowad, road widening, removal of Tansa pipeline encroachments and the Mahatma Gandhi Path Kranti Yojana, among others, for which the civic body has to provide alternate accommodation to the PAPs. Most of the people who have been provided alternate housing at Mahul have complained of lack of basic civic amenities there.

Shiv Sena corporator Mangesh Satamkar said, “People are willing to shift to Mahul, but there is absence of even basic amenities. Due to pollution and lack of facilities, they are finding it difficult to live there.”

Congress corporator Sufiyan Niaz Vanu said, “Despite hardships faced by people, the civic authorities are turning a blind eye towards their problems.”

BJP leader Manoj Kotak said that the civic body should make a healthy financial provision to provide better civic amenities to Mahul residents.
