MUMBAI: After a delay of three years, the ministry of health and family welfare has renewed permission for admission to the medical undergraduate course at eight MBBS colleges in the state, one of which is in the city.

These eight government medical colleges will have 50 to 150 seats, as per the request made by the Medical Council of India. By increasing the number of seats, the 2018-19 batch is expected to have a smooth admission process.

The medical colleges, which have received approval from the ministry, are Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, Nagpur (100-150 seats), Government Medical College, Gondia (100 seats), Government Medical College, Latur (100-150 seats), Rajashree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Government Medical College, Kolhapur (100-150 seats), Government Medical College, Chandrapur (100 seats), Hinduhri-dayasamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College and R. N. Cooper General Hospital, Mumbai (150 seats), Shri Bahusaheb Hire Government Medical College, Dhule (50-100) and Government Medical College, Akola (100-150 seats).

“For this academic year, there won't be any trouble for the students as there are plenty seats now. Hence, once the admission process starts (which is expected in the last week of June), majority of the students may get placed in medical colleges,” said a parent of a medical aspirant.
