Mumbai: The carcass of a dolphin washed ashore at Versova Beach on Wednesday night. The body of the 8 -feet- long dolphin was found in a severely decomposed state. Forest officers said it may have had a natural death. Officers from the State Mangrove Cell were informed by Afroz Shah, an environment lawyer spearheading the massive cleanliness drive in Versova Beach, around 11.30 pm. Following this, officials from the Forest Department too arrived at the spot later, after which the dolphin was given a burial.

This has been the second beaching incident of the year across Mumbai’s shores, after a 5.5 feet long dolphin's carcass was found in Juhu beach earlier on February. The Mangrove Cell is presently working on a make-shift rescue centre for marine animals in Versova Beach.
