Mumbai: A special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Wednesday remanded 43-year-old police inspector Anand Bhoir of Mumbai crime branch in police custody till January 4, in a bribery case. The ACB arrested Bhoir, who was posted in the Unit X (MIDC) of crime branch on Tuesday for allegedly accepting Rs 22 lakh bribe from a wine shop owner.

The prosecution case is that Bhoir was the investigating officer in a case registered under the Maharashtra Prohibition of Liquor Act registered last year. He had claimed that the material cropped up during the investigation dem-ands arrest of the victim. He had allegedly demanded Rs25 lakh from him to not arrest him in the case.

The victim negotiated the amount and agreed to pay Rs 22 lakh, but he didn’t want to pay bribe so he registered a complaint with the ACB. Following the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on Tuesday and arrested Bhoir and his driver Rambabu Yadav (23) red-handed while accepting bribe from the complainant inside his private vehicle.

On request of chief public prosecutor Jaisingh Desai the court remanded Bhoir to ACB custody. However, the court remanded his driver Yadav to judicial custody.
