Mumbai: To rapidly combat the increasing Protection Of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases, the Mumbai police has set up a dedicated POCSO unit in every police station, wherein a team of six persons will work only on such cases. The team, which will include two female constables, will work in two shifts, and one female constable will always be present.

The police team has been trained to dig out the facts and figures of the cases. Two weeks after the POCSO units were set up in the police stations, around 242 complaints have been received by the police stations across the city. On an average, the city police registers 15 complaints related to POCSO crimes each day.

Advocate Flavia Agnes of Majlis, which has have trained thousands of police officers over the years, told The Asian Age, “We have drafted a standard operating procedure (SOP) and the training is given accordingly. The training includes simple things and they are trained to help the victim open up to the cops and report the incident. Majlis was given a task to impart the training, and the training is now over.”
