Maniyar’s lawyer alleged that Maniyar has filed several RTIs to expose collusion between the police and the other government authorities and people allegedly encroaching upon lands and hence he is being harassed.

Mumbai: A magistrate court in Bandra has granted two more week’s time to the BKC police to furnish documentary evidence to prove that there are several criminal cases registered against an RTI activist Nasir Maniyar, because of which the police had kept him under five days preventive detention during Eid in 2016.

“Last year we moved the court to get the detention order quashed against Maniyar, because if that order remains there is every possibility that the police would exercise its power to detain him in future too,” said advocate Tanveer Nizam.

According to advocate Nizam the police had mislead the court by mentioning nine different CR numbers in his remand application. “However, when we sought details of cases registered against Maniyar in the BKC police station we got a reply that there is no case against him in this police station,” said Nizam. He also said that earlier the court had granted the police three week’s time to furnish details of cases against Maniyar but on Saturday they failed to come with documents.
