Two police officials held for accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe
One more accused who helped these officers is likely to get arrested soon.
Mumbai: Two police officials attached with the RCF police station and an individual were on Wednesday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
The two policemen have been identified as Rajesh Govinda Chandagude (42) a sub-inspector and Rajendra Mahadik (50), a constable. Satish Aathvale (35), an individual they allegedly involved in their team to accept bribe from the complainant, has also been arrested. One more accused who helped these officers is likely to get arrested soon.
Following the arrest of the accused, an ACB team conducted searches in their flats. The two policemen are likely to be suspended from duty. A relative of the complainant had been booked by the RCF police in connection with a robbery case earlier this month. The person in question has a prior history of being involved in some other robbery cases too, sources said.
In early December, constable Mahadik allegedly approached the complainant and his family members and demanded Rs 5 lakh if he wanted the complainant’s relative to be not arrested and also to delete his name from the FIR. The complainant, who did not want to pay a bribe, approached the ACB, which asked him to go ahead with the negotiations.
“A deal was struck and the complainant was to pay (the accused) the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh to the accused on December 30. The officers sent a private person to accept the Rs 1 lakh. As soon as Satish Aathvale accepted the amount handed over by the complainant, the ACB cops nabbed him,” said ACB PRO, Deepali Patil.
