Kolkata: A youth was arrested by the criminal investigation department (CID) of the Puducherry police with the help of West Bengal CID on Saturday morning in connection with a fraud.

Shyam Maitra, the accused from Durgapur of Burdwan West, was caught soon after he checked out of Hyatt Regency, where he was staying, at around 11.45 am with the help of hotel staff, said DIG CID (operation) Nishat Parv-ez. Introducing himself as Bholanath Biswas, assistant general manager (Marketing) of SAIL on IndiaMART, a marketing business web portal, he used to ask the customers for buying SAIL products.

Prashant Banshal, the owner of Pasupati Engi-neering of Puducherry placed an order for 35 mt steel. But Shyam told him that SAIL would not supply less than 100 mt. Mr Banshal paid him Rs 58,32,000 through RT-GS. On July 26, the case was registered in Puduc-herry. The crime branch CID Puducherry police sought help of the state CID. The officials had no details about the accus-ed except his mobile number, a team was placed outside Hyatt hotel.from where he checked out.
