Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh has slammed the Mamata Banerjee government over the lack of safety measures which have come to light into the fatal stampede at a temple during Janmastami celebration in Kachua in North 24 Parganas.

Demanding the state government to own the responsibility for the deaths he also wondered why members of other community would not get safety when Haj pilgrims get it from the state government.

Referring to the chief minister’s announcement of compesation for the victims, Mr Ghosh said, “Only the payment of compensation is not enough. The Trinamul Congress government has to own the responsibility for the accident.”

He observed, “The Haj pilgrims get security. It is the government which ensures that. It is good. But why is it for only one religion?”

The BJP Lok Sabha MP of Midnapore later tweeted, “Many of us would seek blessings of the Lord or a spiritual Guru to obtain Mukti and Moksha.

Hence it is extremely painful and raises serious concern about the safety of followers who got killed by the collapse of a wall at the the holy site...”

He added, “The WB govt must take a cue on the safety at temples and holy shrines from other states. Our thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We sincerely hope and pray that such  accidents do not occur in the future.”
