West Bengal: One held on dowry death charges

Kolkata: A young homemaker was found hanging at her in-laws' residence in Manicktala on August 20. The deceased identified as Nandita Biswas, was the wife of Tanmoy Biswas, a medical representative: 

The police arrested Mr Tanmoy of Muraripukur on dowry death charges after Nandita's family registered a complaint against him of torturing the deceased for dowry. 

Originally from Bankura, Nandita got married to Tanmoy one-and-a-half years ago. According to the deceased’s family, they gave dowry to Tanmoy during marriage, which her in-laws had found inadequate. 

Her family members also alleged that Nandita called them up on August 20 afternoon to complain that she was beaten up and sent across a photo of an injury mark on her body through WhatsApp to a relative, sources revealed. 

On August 20 evening, she was found hanging from the ceiling in a room. Her aunt Chhanda Sarkar claimed that her husband and other in-laws had strangulated her to death before hanging the body. The police sent the body for post-mortem.
