Kolkata: Losing his temper once again Union minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises Babul Supriyo has triggered a contoversy by threatening a man of breaking his leg in public and handing him a crutch.

His comments, which was captured on camera, came at a programme: Samajik Adhikarita Shivir at Asansol of Burdwan West, also his Lok Sabha constituency, where he was invited to donate wheelchairs and other equipments to the differently-abled persons on Tuesday. This has caused a major embarrassment to the BJP.

The singer-turned MP faced angry protests by the hawkers backed by the Trinamul Congress who shouted slogans and showed him black flags on Wednesday when he visited Kumarpur in Asansol to commence the work for construction of a Road Over Bridge in collaboration with SAIL.

Surrounded by the demonstrators he had a tough time to pacify them. On Tuesday after handing over a bouquet to a man at the dais at Nazrul Mancha Mr Supriyo lost his cool while addressing the audience.

Referring to a man whose movements looked disturbance to him he told him in a threatening mood, “What happened, gentleman? Do you have any problem? I can break your leg and hand you a crutch. Go and stand to that side. Come to this side.”

The union minister then turned to his security personnel in front of the dias and directed them saying, “Next time he makes any move from his place, remove his leg and I will give him a stick. Do you understand?” Next he told the audience, “Give him a big round of applause for him.”

Earlier in March this year, Mr Supriyo threatened to “skin alive” some people after he became irritated at them for shouting slogans against him when he visited Asansol following the communal violence during a Ram Navami procession.
