Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh’s car was vandalised allegedly by the Trinamul Congress workers at Contai in East Midnapore on Monday. Hit by stones and bricks the window and door glasses were smashed. While Mr Ghosh was not inside his car, the BJP claimed that seven of its workers were injured during the vandalism.

The Kharagpur MLA reached the town to convene a district training workshop at a hall in the morning. He was also scheduled to address the district BJP meeting of the functionaries in the afternoon. When Mr Ghosh was inside the hall, a group of Trinamul workers came out from a party office located opposite.

Shouting slogans they showed black flags. The BJP workers protested. The Trinamul workers then pelted stones on the car of Mr Ghosh and damaged 15 others. A police team rushed to the spot. Mr Ghosh accused Trinamul MP of Tamluk Dibyendu Adhikari of leading the attack on him.

“The BJP could not be stopped by clashes. That is why muscle power is used now. My car was damaged in presence of Tamluk MP. Stones were pelted while bricks were hurled on my car for 15 minutes. We formed boards at many places defying atrocities by the Trinamul. The ruling party has been panicked over our expansion,” he claimed.

Mr Ghosh added, “Since the attack unfolded in front of the police, the police should arrest the culprits.” Mr Adhikari refuted his allegations. He said, “The attack was the outcome of internal feud of the BJP. Mr Ghosh often makes provocative speeches which led to the incident.”
