Kolkata: The state criminal investigation department (CID) unearthed an arms manufacturing unit at Rabindranagar in South 24 Parganas on Monday night and recovered a large quantity of arms. The CID also arrested three persons in this connection.

“Acting on a tipoff we, along with the Rabindranagar police, raided the house of Goutam Roy at South Bidhangarh and busted an arms manufacturing unit. 38 pieces of improvised automatic pistols fitted with magazines, and another 38 pieces of magazines and a huge quantity of other accessories used for manufacturing arms have been recovered,” deputy inspector general (DIG), CID, Nishat Pervez said. Goutam Roy, the owner of the house, is among the three persons who have been arrested. The others are Mohammed Nasrul and Mohammed Sabbir Alam, both of whom are residents of Munger, Bihar.

The accused were produced at Alipore court on Tuesday and were remanded to 10 days in CID custody. In another case of arms haul recovery, the Kolkata police recovered 30 pieces of semi-finished 7 mm pistols from Noor Md. Munshi Lane in Howrah on Monday evening.
