Kolkata: Two youth were arrested from New Market area by the police for smuggling fake currencies worth Rs 10 lakhs in Kolkata. Rintu Sheikh (23) and Rakimul Sheikh (24) are residents of Kaliachak in Malda. They went to buy items at a shop in New Market in the evening after reaching the city from the district on Thursday. But the shop-keeper grew suspicious when the duo paid him the money for the bill.

He alerted the New Market police station from where the special task force of the city police was informed. An STF team rushed to the shop and arrested the duo. Counterfeit notes of Rs 10 lakhs mostly in Rs 2,000 denominations were seized from them. The STF also impounded a car in which the accused were travelling after pasting a police sticker on it.
