A case on murder charge was initiated under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Garfa police station.

Kolkata: An aged man killed his wife at the couple’s home in Garfa late on Tuesday night. The victim, Deepa Das (55) stayed at Viveknagar with her husband Kalyan Das (65) and their son Subhojit. She was lying paralysed at home with other illness since December last year.

At around 11.45 pm Deepa was found dead by her son in a room with the door locked from outside. Mr Kalyan was absconding. The police recovered the body and found that she had been strangulated to death.

Questionning Mr Subhojit, the cops learnt that Mr Kalyan had an altercation with his wife earlier in the day. But why he killed him is not clear to the police. The police is also probing where their son was during the murder.

On Wednesday Mr Subhojit lodged a complaint against his father. A case on murder charge was initiated under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Garfa police station.

“The door was locked from outside and apparently it seems to be a murder by strangulation. We have spoken to the son who claimed that his father had a quarrel with his mother in the morning yesterday. He is our prime suspect and is currently untraceable. Our investigation is still on,” a police officer said.

According to preliminary investigation, Mr Kalyan works as a supervisor in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. He was upset over the treatment cost of his wife since his son is still unemployed, said a police officer.

This led to frequent quarrel between him and his son and wife. The body was sent for post-mortem, the police said, adding investigation is on.
