Kolkata: The RSS has finally got permission from Kolkata police to organise a rally at Shaheed Minar ground, where chief Mohan Bhagwat will address a public gathering on January 14, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Mr Bhagwat is coming to the city on January 13 for a three-day scheduled visit.

The Kolkata police had earlier refused permission for the rally at the desired venue, and later also did not agree when the organisation reportedly sought permission to hold its chief’s convention at Mahajati Sadan and near APG School in Kidderpore.

RSS leaders then took the matter to the Union ministry of home affairs, which reportedly intervened, sources aware of the development said. The police, after considering the matter for several weeks, finally gave RSS the permission to organise the convention at Shaheed Minar ground.

Besides addressing the convention, Mr Bhagwat is expected to attend a special parade on the second day of his visit. He is also likely to hold a meeting with state BJP president Dilip Ghosh. According to state RSS leaders, Mr Bhagwat would discuss ways to strengthen the organisation in Bengal.
