Kolkata: Education minister Partha Chatterjee informed on Monday that chief minister Mamata Banerjee has solved the problems faced by eminent theatre personality Shaoli Mitra, who has offered to resign as the chairperson of the Paschim Banga Bangla Akademi due to some infrastructural hiccups. He also ruled out her offer to resign.

“I have been in touch with her for a long time. We talk also. But I have not heard her wishing to quit,” Mr Chatterjee said.

He stressed that Ms Mitra will continue to work in the post as she has been doing. “She has some demands. The chief minister has sorted out the problems. So Ms Mitra will continue in her post,” the education minister added.

Ms Mitra however shot back saying, “Let the state government give its proposal to me. I will look into it,” she said.

Nearly three weeks ago, Ms Mitra wrote a letter to the chief minister offering to step down from the post. On Sunday, she broke her silence.

According to her, she was yet to receive any reply from the chief minister. She also wondered if her letter had reached the chief minister.

Ms Mitra pointed out some infrastructural hiccups she faced while working. She explained that since the problems could not be solved she wanted to resign.

Founded on May 20 in 1986 Paschim Bangla Akademi is under the information and cultural affairs department of which Ms Banerjee is the minister as well.
